新光社区位于陆城中心的东侧，东到金龙社区洪厝围，西与向阳社区土笼街交界，南抵红光村的环城路，北至东风社区金马街，面积约0.8平方千米，户籍人口16205人[1]。社区有菜园、笠后、三角池、圩仔4个居民小组[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

博雅地名网记载，明万历初年起有外地居民陆续迁来，形成居民点；新中国成立后设新华居民区，1968年改新光管理区，1978年改新光居民区，1987年4月称新光居委会，1994年为居民管理区，1999年复称居委会，2002年起为新光社区居民委员会[2]。

荣誉[edit]

2019年9月，社区入选广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建名单（2018年度）；2020年12月又获评「广东省卫生村」（2020年度）[2]。
