潭下镇在广东省梅州市五华县北部，距县城约35公里，辖1个社区和20个行政村。镇名来自境内弯曲多潭的潭下河。^[1]^[2] 它是山地多、田地少的革命老区镇，1986年由区改设为镇。^[2]^[3]

历史沿革[edit]

镇情材料说，这里在宋、元、明、清各代设厢、约；民国时期曾叫第一区，更早还当过第三区；1949年以后，区、乡、人民公社的建制都经历过。^[2]

1983年11月，潭下、锡坪两个公社并成潭下区；到1986年11月，区改为镇。^[1] 同一网站的镇概况则写作1987年后撤区设镇，两处相差一年。^[2]

地理环境[edit]

镇域东邻益塘水库，西与龙川县及五华县岐岭镇相接，南与长布镇相邻，北与华城镇相连。^[2] 潭下河、新田河、锡坪河、汶水河流经镇内，落差大，可供开发水电；镇概况还提到矿产十余种，包括煤、金、锡，以及石灰石和瓷土。^[2]

面积一说约230.06平方千米，另有镇概况记总面积258平方千米，其中耕地22473亩、山地31.1万亩，山地相当于全县山地的1/10。^[1]^[2]

按2020年开展的第七次人口普查，全镇约3.25万人，五华县各乡镇按人口排第13位。^[1] 镇概况另给出一组未注年份的数字，即9383户、55159人，应是较早的统计。^[2]

镇概况记，2005年全镇工农业总产值3.35亿元，农村人均年收入3479元；当年村集体收入在10万元以上的只有布坪村一个。^[2] 主产水稻，年粮食总产在15000吨以上。^[2]

广东省农业农村厅2020年8月评出首批“一村一品、一镇一业”专业村，潭下镇入选的有大玉村（生猪）^[4]、福灵村（蛋鸭）^[5]、新田村（鹰嘴桃）^[6]、金石村（鹰嘴蜜桃）^[7]、柏洋村^[8]与锡坪村^[9]（无花果）、品畲村（菩米）^[10]。

2026年1月，金石村成为广东省“百千万工程”第二批典型村^[7]；同年3月，柏洋村进入该工程第三批典型村镇名单。^[8]

文化[edit]

博雅地名网在潭下镇页的民俗栏里列有竹马舞、锣花舞、下坝迎灯、采茶戏、石雕工艺和长乐烧酒的酿制技艺，但这类栏目常按全县汇总，各项是否出自本镇，该页没有交代。^[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

伏波门第建于清代，在大玉村；五华县政府于2021年2月26日将其列入县第六批文保单位。^[3]
