百侯社区是大埔县百侯镇镇中心区的社区，2014年5月成立，沿用至今。[1]

地名由来[edit]

相传古时旧寨里、马山顶等山头设有传递军情的烟墩，称作「堠」，用白石、白土（瓷土）砌成，所以叫「白堠」，后成为地名。据民国《大埔县志》，清康熙二十七年（1688年），进士杨之徐提议把「白」字上加一横写作「百」，又去掉「堠」字的土字旁成为「侯」，意思是「白堠辖地，出百位封侯」；此后「百侯」渐被采用，民国时在志书中正式使用，而当地人的口语仍读作「白堠」。[1]
