外埔社区属汕头市澄海区凤翔街道，在澄海城区东部，背靠韩江，离城区约一公里，辖区2.7平方公里。[1][3]村建在韩江下游堤边的沙埔上，是辟望最靠外的村落，又因船只常在此装卸货物而成商埠，得名外埔。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

传说村子明代中叶即有，曾同信宁合称外埔信宁社。[2]它原属海阳县下外莆都辟望，澄海建县后改隶澄海县。[2]民国时有外埔乡（1932年）；1946年并入秀水乡；1956年至1957年同东湖、宁美、港口合为信宁乡；1961年设外埔生产大队，1986年建居委会，1996年入凤翔街道，2002年称社区。[2]2019年9月，它被列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位。[1]

人口与经济[edit]

据博雅地名网，社区1536户，6634人，分14个居民小组；凤新一路、凤新二路和凤东路是主干道，南通莱美路，北通莲河路。[3]辖区有200多家企业，以塑料、工艺为主，2009年工业生产总值16亿元。[3]
