环东社区属汕头市澄海区凤翔街道，是主城区的一部分，位于旧澄海县城环城东路外围，因此得名。[1]二十世纪七十年代这里还是田野，自1978年才逐步建成居民区。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

从1978年开始，田野上陆续出现了环北新村、南葛洋新村、八角楼新村和东门新村，文祠东路两旁也建起住宅。[1]

行政上，1983年先成立环东居民办事处，当时属城关镇；1985年改隶澄城镇；1986年改称环东居委会；1996年划归凤翔街道；2002年起叫环东社区，沿用至今。[1]
