大元村位于嵩口镇南面，离镇区约11.8公里，与余朋乡东坑村接壤。村子由一个主村和三个自然村组成。[1]

地理环境[edit]

村名的来历是此地范围较大，地形呈圆形。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

此地在民国时期属复兴乡大元保管辖。1950年后归梓龙乡，经梓龙大队的分设，1961年起另立大元大队，1984年才改设大元村。[3]

2024年7月，村获「2023年度三明市达标“六无”村（社区）」称号，同月又被确定为「2021-2023年三明市达标“六无”村（社区）」。[1]
