大元村位于广州市南沙区横沥镇义沙岛中北部，约在清道光二十年（1840年）前后围垦成村。[1]
名称与历史[edit]
清末通行银元，村人希望由此挣得许多“大圆”，村名便定为“大圆”，后简写成“大元”。村内有大元围头、大元围尾、迪安围头三个自然村，村民主要姓李、梁、何、周。[1]
此地旧属香山县，后属中山县第九区；1959年起归番禺县大岗公社，1978年大岗公社分出横沥公社后改属横沥，1987年设村民委员会。[1]
概况[edit]
村域1.36平方千米，耕地963亩，2020年593户、1608人。村内的大元开发区汇集了皮革、模具、灯饰、塑料加工等行业的企业，农户种植西红柿、水瓜、玉米和甘蔗。[1]
