东南村处在梧塘镇东部，离镇址约3公里。它的东侧挨着西林村，南侧与国欢镇的南林村接壤，西侧是松东村，北侧连着九峰村。村名取自东珠与南浦两个自然村合并时各取的一字。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

新中国成立后，东珠归江口区，南埔归涵江区。1958年，两村合为东南大队，并属梧塘公社。1984年12月，东南村委会设于梧塘乡；1985年3月起，它改由梧塘镇管辖。2002年以后，村委会属莆田市涵江区梧塘镇。[1]

地方风物[edit]

南坡自然村的连捷春大厝建于清道光年间（1824年），为三进砖瓦土木结构的平屋，共有八十多间房间，建筑规模较大。[2]

挢怀堂建于1996年，亭内立碑，纪念抗日志士连文瀛。他曾响应陈嘉庚的号召，参加第四批南侨机工回国抗战。[2]

荣誉[edit]

2021年3月，东南村被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」；2024年1月，村庄被命名为「2023年福建省卫生村」。[1]
