历史沿革[edit]
万东原是1949年后的万东乡。1958年公社化时，罗营划出另立大队，万东自成一队；此后又陆续分走两处：桂培（1974年）和万西（1975年）。1984年3月，乡政府取代了生产大队，1986年名为万东村委会，1990年为万东管理区，1999年起是村民委员会。[1] 村下自然村有红光、高洋、各里、中前、世径。[3]
红色历史[edit]
1923年夏，范照南、高照文、彭培轩等人先后来到万东乡宣传，组织成立农会。[2] 1932年国民党军队围剿根据地，万东受害最重：据镇政府统计，烧毁房屋600多间、抢走耕牛500多头、杀害群众147人，被迫逃亡外地的200余人。[2]
经济[edit]
村里适合种魔芋和生姜，据称种植户每年因此增收近万元；村委还引资开发石辽电站，增加集体收入。[1]
荣誉[edit]
汕尾市在2021年4月发布的名单中，万东村是「2020年度市级文明村镇」之一；2022年1月，省乡村振兴局把它定为「2021年广东省乡村治理示范村」创建单位；2024年1月，它又成为「2023年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」。[1]
