据博雅地名网记载，村中有一口大池塘，把整个自然村横切为南北两块，因此叫横塘。[1]

据博雅地名网村情（未注明年份），全村分12个村民小组，在册268户、1603人，总面积6平方公里，耕地约900亩，主要作物是水稻，上一年农村经济总收入775万元。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
据博雅地名网所载沿革，1949年这里是横塘乡，1960年改称大队，1985年改称管理区，1999年又改为村民委员会，此后未变。[1]
荣誉[edit]
获2023年2月公布的五华县2022年度文明村镇的称号；2026年3月又入选广东省第三批「百千万工程」典型村镇。[1]
