名称出自新中国成立后，群众翻身、如获新生的心情。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
1966年5月，新群的生产大队从平潭公社划出，隶属马安公社管委会；1983年11月社改区，改为新群乡；1987年1月撤区设镇，改为新群管理区，后来成为新群村委会。[2]
