这里民国初年归化州县的搢绅乡，其后归钱石乡，新中国成立后归梨华乡；1960年编入新安公社的大坡三联大队，1961年转为兰山公社的番昌大队；1983年设番昌乡，1987年称番昌村委会并设管理区办事处，1999年改称村民委员会，2003年起归中垌镇兰山办事处管辖。[1]
