历史沿革[edit]
1958年底，塘房、南村、南沙三个自然村合组为塘房生产大队，其间一度分设又重合；1966年起叫永新，沿用至今。80年代它先后改为乡政府、管理区办事处，隶石湾区环市镇；禅城区成立后仍属环市镇，2003年9月环市改设街道，2006年6月起归祖庙街道。[3]

博雅地名网载，村总人口14160人，其中常住3361人、暂住10799人，村民小组共9个：莲子、新一、新二、东星、群星，以及卫国、镇南、南沙、南村。[2]
经济[edit]
该村早年以农业为主、小五金加工为辅，改革开放后产业转向商业服务业；2005年底村民公寓竣工交付，近年「三旧」改造按合作开发的方式推进。[2]
