历史沿革[edit]
始祖蔡念一于北宋明道二年（1033年）由福建莆阳入粤，卜居南山（即西山）；李氏、钟氏族群后来在明成化至清嘉庆年间先后来此定居。1952年土改称西山小乡，1957年称西山社，1958年称西山大队，1983年11月恢复西山乡。1987年1月撤乡改村，称西山村民委员会，属荔城镇；2004年增江街成立后属增江街。[1]
人口与文化[edit]
村情简介记全村1193多户，常住约4955人，主要姓氏有蔡、江、钟、李，下辖8个自然村、10个合作社。村内有蔡氏宗祠；鹤之洲湿地公园位于西山鹤洲村。增城旧八景中，南山钓台、增江晚渡、鲤桥春浪三景在西山附近。[1]
