1987年，成立茭塘东村民委员会，沿用至今。[1]
物产与荣誉[edit]
塘东村的桃花是南村镇的传统特色农产品。[2]2019年9月，村列入「2018年广东省“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位」名单；2020年至2022年连续上榜淘宝村名单；2024年11月获评「2024年广州市充分就业社区（村）」。[1]
