太平镇位于广东省云浮市罗定市的南端，以信宜市为南邻，罗平、罗镜两镇环绕其东、西、北三面。镇政府设在太平圩，从圩镇到罗定市区约有36公里路程。镇域面积93.8平方千米，太平河与罗镜河穿境而过。[1][2]

地名取自圩镇。太平圩前面是一片平坦的小平原，人们便取圩名为“太平”，寓意安居乐业、永享太平。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

南朝时，此地属龙乡县。隋代起划入泷水县，这一归属一直延续到明代万历初年；万历五年（1577年）改由罗定州的二都管辖，此后直至清末。民国时期隶属罗定县第三区。新中国成立后，1950年归入罗定县第一区；1958年实行公社化，镇域起初划给罗镜公社。1961年6月，镇域从罗镜公社析出，另立太平公社。1983年公社改为太平区，1986年11月再由区改设为镇。[2]

境内有陶土、瓷土、石英矿和黑碳土等矿产。[2]

人口[edit]

2005年末，全镇总人口为59198人。在第七次全国人口普查的结果中，本镇人口为5.01万人。[2][1]

经济[edit]

太平镇是罗定市的重点粮食产区，也是水果与蚕桑的产区。水稻和蚕桑是主要作物；水果之中，龙眼、荔枝与芒果都是本地的土特产。镇内的凉亭土鸡养殖基地，据载是罗定市规模最大的。[2]

广东省农业农村厅于2020年8月定下专业镇名单，太平镇凭借蚕桑产业入选「第二批广东省一村一品一镇一业专业镇」。[1]

文化与名胜[edit]

南门垌墓位于太平河东岸的山丘上，是战国时期的墓葬。1977年，引太水渠开挖时发现古墓。据百度百科，共发现3座墓，分属战国早、中、晚三个时期，出土青铜器141件；博雅地名网所载当年清理的记录则为两座墓，其中一号墓随葬器物136件。两种记载的数目不同，此处并存。[3][4]

其余文物古迹分布在各村：潭白村境内有泷州城址；双角村的石人像列为罗定市文物保护单位。埒口村内有两处文物，即时昌老屋与一座合作社旧址；引太水闸则在镇安村。[5][6][7][8][9]
