村子在华湖镇西北一带，靠近雷岭河中段，惠政桥的东北面，同时在县城规划的控制范围里。村中以农业为主，薏米、荔枝等是当地的主要产物。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

宋末年间，彭氏到雷岭河东侧创业定居。村前大片田地租给佃户耕种，佃户称之为“彭家田”；至明嘉靖末年，佃户在耕地上建房落户，村名写作“彭田”。1950年改称“坪田”，两字读音相近；村内同时分出坪新和坪老两个小村。[1]

农产有水稻、玉米、薏米，另种番薯、蔬菜、西瓜，果树则有荔枝和龙眼。村中还开办了一家薏米加工厂。[2]

荣誉[edit]

爱卫会在2023年5月认定坪田村为「2022年广东省卫生村」。2023年4月，坪田村列入「2022年广东省乡村治理示范村」创建单位名单。2019年9月，坪田村进入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
