沙头社区位于长安镇中南部，全镇以它的面积为最大，其东侧为乌沙，西侧为上沙，南侧连接滨海湾新区，北侧是新安社区。[1]

社区内有历史建筑「作庐」，位于西南路七巷11号，列入东莞市第三批历史建筑保护名录。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，南宋中期此处已成村落，曾名北山村；元朝时期，福建南雄人迁来居住，改称沙头。[2]

1958年公社化后设沙头大队，辖区包含西坊、中坊、东坊、沙区、塘厦、桥头、墐头共七个自然村。1983年改设沙头乡，1987年改为沙头管理区，1998年设沙头村委会，2005年村改居，设沙头社区居委会。[2]

据东莞市人民政府门户网站，社区内厂房共372栋，入驻工厂3469家。社区以「外向带动」为发展思路，并促进私营经济发展。[1]
