新和社区位于东莞市万江街道西南部，处在万江、道滘、南城、厚街四镇交界处。社区辖新洲、横滘、螺涌、下塘等居民小组。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

旧时此地属坝螺乡。1952年设新和乡，到1958年随公社化改为新和大队。1984年撤乡后改设生产队，1987年更名为新和管理区；1999年成为村委会，2005年转为社区居委会。[1]

交通与产业[edit]

博雅地名网称，二十世纪七十年代以前，此地偏离城区，交通不便。1978年，乡政府出资修建了一条通往莞城的混凝土公路，村子从此并入城区的经济圈。此前村中以种植水稻、甘蔗、黄麻、花生和蔬菜为主，河涌纵横，运输多用船只。改革开放后，外向型工业逐步发展起来。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2019年9月，社区获评2018年度广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」的创建单位。2022年1月，社区被广东省乡村振兴部门确定为2021年度「广东省乡村治理示范村」的创建单位。[1]
