太平社区是太平镇的镇中心区，镇政府所在的圩镇即在此处。[1][2]圩名源于传说中的旧圩迁址：旧时的连塘圩位于南北、大楼一带，后因地面下沉而迁往龙船岗头，并改称太平圩。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，明嘉靖元年（1522年）前后，此处的圩镇定名太平圩，人们盼望平安度日，所以取了这个名字。[1]1986年12月撤区建镇后，镇政府驻太平圩。[2]

2019年9月，太平社区列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」名单。[1]
