清中叶，胡姓人家在此建村，称旱地村。1951年设旱地乡，1959年划入新洲公社，1987年撤乡政府改设旱地管理区，1999年设立旱地村委会[1]。

2019年9月，该村列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单；同年12月，又列入第二批国家森林乡村名单[1]。
