新湖社区在甲子镇西南，南临甲子港，东邻东溪、东宫社区，西接望湖社区，北连元高、高地社区，居民以老城区居民为主。[1]

概况[edit]

辖区约1平方公里，海岸线300米，有1618户，户籍9713人，流动人口4580人。社区产业有商贸、渔业、海产品加工和轻工业，青壮年多外出务工。区内有小学、幼儿园各一所，以及木石奇观、廻龙古寺、关帝公庙、雷爷公庙等庙宇和景观。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

新中国成立初的1950年，设新湖社府；到1954年改叫街道区，1956年成为居民委员会，1964年建立了中共新湖支部。「文革」期间的1968年称革命委员会，1975年称「五七」大队。1979年起叫管理区，1984年叫居民管理区，1987年1月重新叫居民委员会，1991年改称办事处，1999年回到居委会，2002年起为新湖社区居委会。[2]

荣誉[edit]

2019年9月，社区入选2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单；2020年12月，获广东省爱卫会授予的2020年广东省卫生村称号。[2]
