上护镇在广东省汕尾市陆河县的西南部，东、南、西、北分别与东坑、河口、新田、南万和河田等镇相邻，镇政府设在上护社区；镇下分河硁、上护两片，辖1个社区和13个行政村。[1][2][5] 圩镇离县城约15公里，因镇内温泉出名，旧时的写法是“上步”，据说是客家话里“步”“护”同音才成了上护。[2][3][4]

这里1974年由河田公社划出，设上护公社，1987年撤区建镇。镇上的洋岭梯田、燕子岩、上护温泉和一批革命旧址，是陆河西南部较集中的游览点。[3][4][9][10]

镇地四面环山，中间是一块盆地，进出都要翻山上坡，所以叫“上步”；客家话里“步”与“护”读音相同，写成了“上护”。[3] 民国时这里设埗径乡；新中国成立后归河田区，1957年撤区另设护径乡，次年又并回河田公社。[3]

1974年，上护公社从河田公社分出，下设18个大队；1983年改设上护区，领4个乡；1987年区撤销，改建为镇。[3] 据博雅地名网，各村委会的名称都是1999年前后由原大队、管理区改称而来。[6]

地理环境[edit]

据镇政府网站，全镇面积121平方千米，森林约12万亩，耕地约1.1万亩；另一页的介绍写作耕地约1.3万亩。[2][1] 百度百科和博雅地名网采用的面积则是111.14平方千米，两个数字出处不同，条目并存。[7][6] 镇境内有莲花山脉的余脉，周围是低丘，围出一个小盆地；螺河从镇内穿过，支流有富梅河和樟河河；新坑水库是座中型水库，建在富梅河上游。[7]

上护与河田、南万、新田、河口、东坑五镇接壤。镇内有潮惠高速陆河南出口，干道是国道G235线上护段和县道134线。[2]

镇政府2015年前后的介绍称全镇有户籍约8000多户、3.8万人，常住约2.3万人；另一页写的是户籍9100多户、约4万人。[1][2] 百度百科转引，2018年末户籍人口39837人，2019年末40234人；2020年11月1日零时的第七次人口普查，常住人口为19841人，较2010年减少8740人。[7]

2015年全镇的社会总产值3.39亿元，农业占1.85亿元，工业占1.42亿元；农民人均纯收入6297元。[1] 镇里当时的发展思路，概括起来是特色农业加旅游，目标是做成温泉之乡；香蕉种植近万亩，镇政府称是全县最大的连片香蕉基地。[1]

各村有各自的作物：富溪的白叶单丛茶，洋岭的大米，鸡坑的火龙果，护东的佛手，护二的青梅，樟河的黄榄。[1] 2024年的一篇报道则说，镇里推的“六棵树”是沉香、石斛、单丛茶和三种柑类（皇帝柑、沃柑、油柑），合计种了4000多亩；护径村靠碳汇项目，上一年为村集体增收18万元。[11] 据百度百科，2019年镇内有工业企业18家，规模以上的2家。[7]

镇上的木偶戏是提线木偶，当地叫“柴头嘎”，据百度百科的说法，1751年（乾隆十六年）由福建上杭传入，唱腔以客家山歌为主，说白全用客家话。[7] 省爱卫会在2022年1月给上护镇命名「广东省卫生镇」。[7]

名胜古迹[edit]

  • 温泉：镇政府称上护温泉水属碳酸钠型，含二十多种矿物质，镇内共有8家温泉酒店，其中大型1家；百度百科记其泉眼两处，相隔20米，水温44至56摄氏度，位于下垅圩河东岸。[4][8] 护二村的下垅温泉最早出名，近年华发集团的温泉文旅项目也落在护二村。[5]
  • 洋岭村的洋岭梯田，据百度百科约1000亩，由荒弃二十多年的山坡地改造成稻田，秋季办梯田节。[9]
  • 燕子岩（紫燕衔花），在护东村，属“陆河八景”，山、水、林、泉、石俱全，镇政府另称其为宗教旅游区。[5][4]
  • 县旅游局编的“醉美山水 人间仙境”线路，从南万镇万全村走到上护镇洋岭村，全长40.48千米，串联点包括燕子岩、洋岭梯田和上护温泉。[10]
  • 瑞龙庄园在樟河一带，据快懂百科，是香港商人朱伯昌在家乡投资建的庄园，园区十万余平方米，花费近五千万元。[12]
  • 硁二村上屋的石渠堂，清道光年间建，1991年重修，占地564平方米，是陆河客家民居的典型格局。[7][13]
  • 苏坑村一带有东江第一支队后方医院遗址等七处革命遗址。[5]
