日中社区是平东镇政府驻地，位于镇东部，社区驻地为日中圩，设7个居民小组。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

相传清乾隆末年开设日中圩，名称出自集市在正午前后最热闹。[2] 1950年归海丰二区平东乡；1974年从南门大队分出，设日中大队，属平东公社；1984年称日中乡，1987年改居民委员会，2004年定名日中居委会，沿用至今。[2]

地理与经济[edit]

社区面积约8.3平方千米，山地5583亩、耕地2450亩（水田1800亩、旱地650亩）。省道335线从社区东西向穿过，县道126线向北通黄羌，另有公路向南通往城东、公平和陆丰西南镇。居民小组为谷塘、陈塘、上楼、下楼、仁安楼、日中、下再。[1] 农业以荔枝、西瓜、水稻为主。[2] 2021年9月，日中社区的茶叶入选广东省第二批「一村一品、一镇一业」专业村名单。[2]

革命历史[edit]

镇政府网站载，日中圩农会长刘春、赤卫队长叶君安在革命低潮时坚持斗争。1992年镇里在社区建起解放战争革命烈士纪念碑，纪念第一、二次国内革命战争、抗日战争和解放战争中牺牲的116位烈士。[1]
