新区社区在安铺镇东北角，因选址在新建的住宅居民区而得名[1][2]。

社区东邻新建村，南邻鹤塘村，西邻长安社区，北邻东山社区；总面积1平方千米，约1030户4000人，区内设有农贸市场、中学、幼儿园，另有自来水厂等工厂[1]。

社区1994年2月成立，沿用至今；2019年9月列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」名单[1]。
