关于村名，地名资料的说法是：据说很早以前此处有一棵大榕树，村民在树下聚成集市，先人遂以榕树命名，村委会驻地在榕树圩。[2]

经济[edit]

村中种养的有水稻、玉米、蔬菜和蚕桑，荔枝产量较多；有木材、粮油、铝合金加工和酿酒、运输等副业，中心街长二百多米，两侧有商铺四十多家。[1]该页载耕地1616亩、山地4655亩。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2021年9月入选广东省第二批“一村一品、一镇一业”专业村名单（蚕茧）；另有2019年9月进入2018年度广东省“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位之列。[1]
