马冈镇在广东省江门市开平市的西北部，北与龙胜镇相邻，南接塘口镇，西面是大沙镇和恩平市，东面与苍城镇交界，镇政府设在马冈圩永宁街1号[1]。全镇下设2个社区和20个行政村[1]。镇内养殖的马冈鹅是当地特产，2021年马冈镇（肉鹅）被农业农村部认定为第十一批全国一村一品示范村镇[2]。

博雅地名网解释镇名的来由：马冈圩一带有一座马山，牛塘尾又有许多小山岗，故称马冈[2]。

清代这一带属长静都，民国时期归开平县第二区。新中国成立后行政归属几经变动：1950年划入第一区，两年后改为十一区。1958年，马冈与沙塘、苍城、张桥（今龙胜）并入苍城公社，1959年单独设立马冈公社；其后改称马冈区公所，到1986年撤销区公所、设立马冈镇[2]。

马冈镇位于开平市西北部，与市区三埠相距约30公里，经325国道可通往珠江三角洲各地[2]。镇域面积在百度百科中记为93.36平方千米，博雅地名网记为92.3平方千米[1][2]。博雅地名网所载的概况还提到，镇内耕地约4.6万亩、山坡地约2.8万亩[2]。

据第七次全国人口普查，马冈镇人口约3.1万人，在开平市各街道、镇中排第5位[2]；维基百科所列数字为30728人[3]。百度百科同一词条里另有一个56864人的常住人口数字，与它自己列出的30996人（2020年末常住人口）不一致，本条目不采用[1]。博雅地名网转载的旧概况称全镇有人口5.2万人，旅居海外的华侨、港澳同胞3.7万多人，未注明年份[2]。

马冈鹅是镇内的主要产业。江门日报报道称，马冈鹅起源于有“千年鹅乡”之称的马冈镇，已获国家地理标志农产品认定；镇内有养殖场300家，2023年出栏肉鹅400万只，种鹅饲养量50万只，鹅苗年产量600万对，养殖业总产值约10亿元[4]。镇内毗邻孔雀湖，池塘众多，被广东省农业农村厅认定为“一村一品、一镇一业”专业镇[4]。养殖户多用放养方式，鹅苗期过后喂谷子、青菜和田草[4]。2020年8月，广东省农业农村厅公布首批“一村一品、一镇一业”专业村名单，镇内的高元村、虎山村和联合村都以马冈鹅入选[2]。

2022年，开平市以马冈镇为试点培育镇域行政区品牌“马冈优品”，带动的农产品还有濑粉、鲜牛奶、辣木苗和番石榴[4]。镇里建有马冈肉鹅综合服务中心，并在建设马冈鹅预制菜产业园；2023年一家养殖企业取得出口供货资质，马冈鹅开始对接海外市场[4]。

各村也参与这条产业链：红丰村联合邻近四个村委会出资建设养殖基地，高园村、龙冈村分别承担预制菜研发中心和鹅苗孵化，大厂村、荣塘村种植制作凉粉的凉粉草[5]。博雅地名网还列出马冈濑粉、芋仔炆马冈鹅和官堂村出产的井仔荔枝为镇内特产[2]。百度百科记载，据百度百科，马冈镇2019年的地方一般公共预算收入为811.6万元，比上年增长9.82%[1]。

官堂村古建筑群在官堂村内，年代为清，属古建筑类，于2020年11月29日列入第五批文物保护单位[2]。镇上的荣誉有：农业农村部在2021年10月将马冈镇认定为「第十一批全国一村一品示范村镇」，2023年10月，镇获评「2023年广东省森林城镇」，2026年3月又被认定为「广东省第三批“百千万工程”典型村镇」[2]。
