沙塘墟社区是开平市沙塘镇政府驻地所在的社区，在资料中归为镇中心区。社区居民委员会设在沙塘墟镇上，名称即由此而来。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

这里原是长沙塘圩。1949年9月，归开平县第一区的松阳乡；1952年归第十区长沙塘乡，1955年成为长沙塘区公所驻地；1956年撤区后为沙塘乡人民政府驻地，从此称沙塘圩。[1]

1958年9月归苍城人民公社，1962年6月划入新设的沙塘人民公社，并为公社管理委员会驻地；1983年3月属沙塘区公所，1986年属沙塘镇人民政府。[1]

地名[edit]

地名资料解释，沙塘一名取自海水冲积成的沙质地，沙多、鱼塘多。[1]

文化[edit]

圩镇老街近年被整治为「三点三」特色街区，沿河修有生态长廊，街角空地改作小型公园。[2]
