甘蕉社区在里水镇中南部，里盐公路和桂和路穿过，面积4.05平方千米，含3个自然村[1]。

旧称联沙，1983年改叫甘蕉[2]。

名称由来[edit]

这里原叫联沙。1983年，南海小塘也有一个联沙大队，为避免重名，里水的联沙改了名；当时这一带种了不少香蕉和柑橙，便取名甘蕉[2]。

历史沿革[edit]

清代属南海县三江司的沙丸堡；民国时期隶属沙丸堡或沙丸乡；1949年后先后归联沙乡、里水乡；1958年为里水公社联沙大队，之后隶属几经变动；1983年为里水区甘蕉乡，1987年起是里水镇甘蕉村[1]。

经济与荣誉[edit]

社区简介称，总人口3250人，耕地925亩（稻田807亩、鱼塘118亩）；到2008年底，辖区有企业252家，含外资企业11家，当年全村生产总值21.6亿元，集体经济总收入2850万元[1]。

2019年9月，它进入「2018年广东省“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位」名单[1]。
