草场社区在里水镇，位于广州与佛山交界处；社区介绍说，西华寺就在这里[1]。

建国前属贞慎乡；1960年贞慎大队与洲村分开，草场一方另立草场大队，2011年“村改居”后设居民委员会[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

社区介绍称，当地有“先有西华，后有南华”的说法；西华寺是广东省重点文物保护单位，可追溯到五代南汉，所在的石门在宋元时以“石门返照”列入“羊城八景”[1]。

建国前草场属贞慎乡。1960年分出草场大队后，1999年改称村委会；到2011年，村委会撤销，改设居民委员会[1]。

西华寺遗址[edit]

西华寺原址在西华村的石门山麓。2006年10月，武广客运专线施工时，村民挖出明成化十年（1474年）所立的《石门山重建西华寺碑》；次年11月，广东省文物考古研究所派工作组发掘，依据出土物和现存建筑初步判断，寺始建于南汉大宝元年（958年），宋、明两代重建，清乾隆、光绪年间两次维修，20世纪中叶香火渐衰，终至湮没[2]。
