历史沿革[edit]

明万历年间，这里属九江堡东区34图的下围；清末属九江堡东方。1953年4月始设上东乡，意为东方的北部，社区名由此而来。[1]

地理环境[edit]

325国道、佛开高速公路和珠二环高速公路从辖区穿过，附近有中外运、定安战备两处码头。[1]

经济[edit]

辖区内有企业130家，以汽车维修与配件销售、家具、五金塑料加工、包装和餐饮服务为主；集体收入主要是物业出租和鱼塘、耕地承包款。[1]

文化[edit]

社区获得过广东省卫生村、南海区健康村等称号。[1]
