桂园社区的居委会1980年11月成立，辖区约0.6平方千米，东面通佛山文华路，西面与禅城区市东路相邻，北面连着佛平路。[1] 它跨在南海区与禅城区之间：常住居民中既有桂城户籍者，也有禅城区祖庙街道户籍者。[1]

管理体制[edit]

居委会16名工作人员里，13人来自南海，3人来自禅城祖庙街道，业务分别接受两边街道指导，所以同一个居委会挂着两个街道的牌子。[1]

地名由来[edit]

关于桂城街道之名，博雅地名网的说法是邻近佛山旧时望族「桂园李氏」聚居处；社区名是否由此而来，该页没有交代。[2]
