平北社区是汕头市潮阳区棉北街道下辖的社区，在潮阳区北部，距汕头市区约10公里，北接三屿围的凉港，南面是练江，国道324线从辖区中间穿过[2][3]。名称来自它在原棉城镇平和坊的北部[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

平北与平西、平南同在1952年从后溪平和西乡分出，起初是大队；1988年改称管理区，1999年改称居委会，沿用至今[1]。

地理环境与人口[edit]

辖区面积约4.7平方公里，山地约3000亩，耕地约270亩。下分大宫、内寨、肖斯巷、上地、向北厝、广埠6个自然村和12个居民小组[2]。博雅地名网所录简介写总人口12703人、3400户[2]，百度百科则写13555人[3]。

经济[edit]

社区经济以工业区为主。较早的简介说，年工农业产值2.5亿元，工业占2.1亿元，集体经济纯收入450万元[2]；百度百科的较新记载是：2023年集体经济收入约717万元，建成的平北农民公寓共1996套住房[3]。

荣誉[edit]

1998年11月，广东省政府评平北为“乡镇企业百强村”；2003年7月，省委省政府评其为“文明社区”[2]。2021年，它又得到“广东省民间文化艺术之乡”的称号[3]。2024年4月，平北进入广东省第一批乡村振兴示范村的创建名单[1]。

名胜古迹[edit]

后溪古渡在平北、平南两个居委的交界，年代为唐代，1997年4月9日公布为潮阳区文物保护单位[4]。大北岩按文物名录也记在平北居委，1985年11月22日公布为潮阳区文物保护单位[5]。社区的后溪英歌舞见于百度百科所列景点与民俗[3]。
