平南社区是汕头市潮阳区棉北街道下辖的社区，在街道南部，与平北、平西两社区的地界交错，南面与文光街道的兴归、西门两个社区相邻，属城乡结合部的涉农社区[2]。名称来自它在原棉城镇平和坊的南部[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

平西、平南、平北三个大队，是1952年从后溪的平和西乡一分为三而来。平南在1988年改作管理区，1999年又改为居委会，延续到现在[1]。

地理环境与人口[edit]

辖区约4.25平方公里，耕地470亩，其中水田320亩；山地达3587亩[2]。博雅地名网收录的简介称这里有2461户、7592人，农业人口占5054人[2]。国道324线、棉新大道和北关路都经过辖区[2]。

经济[edit]

社区早年有“建筑之乡”的说法，近年转向工业与商贸；集体拥有4栋工业区厂房，建筑面积18432平方米[2]。2017年10月，平南社区被广东省爱国卫生运动委员会列入第一批广东省卫生村[1]。

名胜古迹[edit]

金钩椅山一带有姚绍墓，虎尾山一带有姚瑗墓，均为明代古墓葬，2010年3月22日公布为汕头市文物保护单位[1]。后溪古渡位于平南与平北交界处，年代为唐代，1997年4月公布为潮阳区文物保护单位[3]。
