棉田社区是汕头市潮阳区棉北街道下辖的社区，位于街道北边，与濠江区接壤，国道324线从辖区穿过[1]。
历史沿革[edit]
据博雅地名网所录，明洪武元年（1368年）先民靠捕鱼为生，后依山聚居，称棉田村；因姓氏较多，分为大棉田、小棉田两个聚落，本村为大棉田，当年因地里多种棉而得名[1]。1950年并入五联片区时定名棉田村；之后1958年为棉田大队，1988年为管理区，1999年为居委会[1]。小棉田即今五三社区[2]。
人口与经济[edit]
全居委1665户，8319人，以农业为主导，养殖业为另一特色；有水田715亩、旱地295亩、养殖池525亩、山林2346亩[1]。
名胜古迹[edit]
大棉田村北侧山丘上有海口天后古庙遗址，年代为明，2014年10月10日公布为汕头市文物保护单位[3]。2021年12月，棉田社区获2021年广东省卫生村称号[1]。
