平东社区位于汕头市潮阳区文光街道，划为城乡结合区，原在棉城外的平和坊东部，清末民国初称平东乡。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

民国年间为平东乡；1949年设平乡农业委员会，1958年改平东农业生产大队，1979年作平东居民区，1988年作平东管理区，1994年成立平东居民委员会，1999年称平东居委会。[1]

地理与教育[edit]

辖区约0.8平方千米（山林不计），有中山路和水门路通过，境内有东山风景区，并集中了潮阳第一中学、棉城中学、华侨学校和镇二小学。[1]社区乡亲萧华松出资200万元，设大学生基金会和老年人慰问金。[1]
