地名由来[edit]
据博雅地名网所载，从南雄珠玑巷迁来的人在此建村，村旁有一口大潭，当地俗称为“湖”，湖里有许多蚌类，因而得名蚌湖[1]。
历史沿革[edit]
蚌湖一带有码头，自然形成了圩市，蚌湖旧墟（蚌湖圩）已有百年以上的历史，2014年被确定为广州传统村落[3]。蚌湖在合并前自成一镇，镇湖、西湖、建南、南方、清河、黄榜岭、新联等村旧时同属蚌湖乡[3]。
名胜古迹[edit]
白云区的文物名录中，蚌湖居委境内有玉虚宫（清代，位于北街）、保安和华侨会所（20世纪50年代，位于镇清街）、蚌湖华侨广播站（1959年，位于镇湖大街）[2]。蚌湖大钟楼（民国时期）在第七十二中学校园内，是白云区区级文物保护单位[2]。
