南门社区位于县城南部，辖区处于南大桥至新南庄之间，总面积0.77平方千米。[1]

社区前身为1990年9月设立的居委会，2002年7月才易名为南门社区居委会。[2]

社区内有飞凤山公园，云根书院也在社区境内。2015年至2017年间，社区获南平市委、南平市人民政府授予的「文明社区」称号。[1][3]
