西头村位于马甲镇东南部，在仙公山下侧，西邻溪林村，北邻溪北村。[1]

村名原称“狮头”，因“狮”与“西”音近，演变为“西头”。传说林氏居此，地形如狮头，村名由此而来；后兄弟分家，分居顶西、下西两个角落。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

新中国成立初期，此地属另一乡；1958年划入马甲公社一个大队；1983年分开建制，设村委会，隶属马甲乡。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2022年12月，村落被命名为2022年福建省卫生村。[1]
