江口社区处在镇域东南角，濒临兴化湾，是全镇政务、商贸和文化生活的中心。隔水与福清市新厝镇的桥尾村相望，西侧依次挨着新墩、海星和新前三个村。[1]

社区名称取自江口港，居于港口一旁。福厦公路从境内穿过，港口有通往国内外的海上航线。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

民国年间此地归江口乡管辖。新中国成立后曾划入第七区江口乡和涵江乡的江口大队；人民公社时期并入蒲坂公社的江口生产大队，此后改属莆田县江口人民公社。1984年成为江口镇的江口大队，次年大队改制为村，不久又改称社区。2002年区划调整，改由涵江区管辖。[2]

2021年3月，社区获评「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」；2022年12月，获评「2022年福建省卫生社区」。[1]

人口民族[edit]

博雅地名网列出社区总人口9260人、总户数4389户，下辖七个自然村、22个村民小组，但未注统计时点。[1]

社区内有二万多名旅外侨胞及港澳台同胞，同样未注年份；以捕捞和海蛎养殖为业的约有800余人。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

凤门林氏大厝又称「百廿间」，坐落在刘井自然村的凤门巷。清乾隆五十一年（1786年），富商林植亭以明代监军给事中林嵋的旧居为基础动工扩建，历时十三年才完工。全宅共有120间房，中轴线上是五进五大厅，两侧设护厝，右侧另有宗祠。2018年9月，它被列为第九批福建省省级文物保护单位。宅内的林氏铜铸胎掐丝珐琅工艺，则入选福建省第五批省级非遗代表性项目。[3]
