江口镇隶属福建省莆田市涵江区，位于涵江区东北部，是莆田市北部的门户。东面与福清市新厝镇接壤，南面临兴化湾，西南与三江口镇、国欢镇相连，西北与梧塘镇为邻，北面与萩芦镇相接。[1][2]

全镇面积为74.98平方千米。2021年10月的数字显示，镇内设1个社区、26个行政村，镇政府驻江口社区。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代江口开始设置建制，最早叫迎仙市，并设迎仙驿，当时是莆田县唐安乡下的一处地方。[3]

民国二年（1913年），江口成为莆田县第七区，区公所就设在这里。1949年8月下旬江口迎来解放，同年9月新成立的第七区人民政府随之设立。[3]

明清两代，江口的归属在莆田县第三区的永丰里与待贤里之间。[2]

1958年起，江口归涵江人民公社管辖。1961年6月，境内分设石庭、蒲坂两个公社，1965年8月又合为江口公社。1983年，公社改为乡；次年10月，乡再改为镇。[1]

2002年江口镇划归涵江区管辖。博雅地名网记为当年4月，百度百科记为同年5月，此处只记年份。[1][2]

镇政府所在地江口社区，即镇名的来处。[5]

荣誉方面，江口镇于2009年1月上榜「第二届全国文明村镇」名单；2014年7月进入「全国重点镇」名单；2019年3月被认定为「第一批福建省侨乡文化名镇名村」。[2]

「2019年度福建省乡村振兴重点特色乡（镇）」的名单于2020年4月公布，江口镇在列。江口镇还先后两次上榜淘宝镇名单，即2021年10月公布的2021年淘宝镇和2022年10月公布的2022年淘宝镇。2025年3月，江口镇被认定为「福建省第一批省级乡村振兴示范乡镇」。[2]

地理环境[edit]

镇域东南临兴化湾，北萩芦溪与蒜溪两条溪流在境内横贯交汇，注入兴化湾，「江口」之名即由此河口而来。[5]

名胜古迹[edit]

东岳观位于镇中心的新街。这座道观最初叫佑圣观，建成于元朝至元二年，即1336年。到明代万历年间的1609年，知县何南金主持重建，并改了现在的名字。观内前、中、后三殿以廊庑连接，主体为前殿的单檐歇山顶五开间建筑。2005年，它成为福建省文物保护单位之一；每年农历三月二十八，观里要举行东岳注生大帝的祭祀大典。[6]

镇内有多处1928年至1946年间的革命旧址，包括新墩村的「江口缴枪战斗旧址」、石东村的「上林亭伏击战旧址」、院里村的「中共莆田县委反叛斗争旧址」和丰美村的「江口列宁小学旧址」，各见于所在村的条目。[4]

囊山村境内的囊山慈寿寺，石狮村的凤来宫，东楼村的紫霞堂等，分别见于各村条目。[7][8]
