村名由来[edit]
村建于约三百五十年前，起初叫「锡花」。1927年海丰县苏维埃政权成立，当地红旗遍地，村民取「赤」代表革命，把「锡」字改成了「赤」。[1]
赤花楼[edit]
自然村赤花楼在丘陵地带，村后山势如狮。据当地报道，吴氏先人约在康熙初年自海城迁来，原住的陈姓后来陆续迁出。村中有三条半直巷、八角井和三个寨门。[3]
清代武进士吴占（嘉庆十九年，1814年中式）和其弟武举人吴英（嘉庆二十四年，1819年中式）出自此村，村前立有两座旗杆夹，光远堂悬「将军第」匾。每年正月初一至初八，村中搭台请戏班演戏。[3]
