下兰村在赤坑镇东北侧，别名厦廊，辖黄茹、下兰2个自然村，约3200人，耕地2000多亩。^[1]^[2]

村名由来[edit]

传说建村之地原是砻地，起初分上砻、下砻两村，后合为一村，以人多的下砻为名。后人嫌字不雅，改用同音的「厦廊」，新中国成立后为书写方便又写成「下兰」，沿用至今。^[1]

村民种水稻和番薯，富余劳力外出打石、跑运输等。^[1]
