西南村在鹅埠街道（原鹅埠镇）南部的山区，辖杨安、大塘、田心、桑园4个自然村，1964年从西湖大队分出而成。^[1]

据博雅地名网，全村240户、1246人，常住的约600多人，以种田为主，另有旱地和水田，但土质欠肥，收益不高。^[1]

西南村的历史从1964年算起，那年它由西湖大队划出，另立西南大队。更早，它在1950年属四区、鲘门区，1957年入鹅埠乡，1960年属鹅埠公社。1984年改称西南乡，1987年成村委会，1998年起为现在的村民委员会（1989年至1998年曾称管理区办事处）。^[1]
