历史沿革[edit]
1947年这里属南三北渭区第五保；1950年设南米乡，属湛江市滨海区；1955年归雷东县四区（南三）；1958年为南米大队，隶南三公社。1961年南三改区，南米大队分为南米、米占、竹围三个大队，1963年又并为竹围大队；1978年竹围大队再分为南米、竹围两个大队。1983年，麻弄、竹围、南米三个大队组成南米乡，次年坡头区成立，南米乡仍归南三区公所。1986年设南米村民委员会，归南三镇；1987年麻弄从南米分出，另设村委会；1999年定名南米村民委员会，沿用至今[2]。

百度百科记载，村委会辖区面积15平方千米，捕捞海岸线长6公里，耕地2950亩，鱼虾养殖面积2880亩；全村1336户、6468人（该词条未注明统计年份）[3]。
经济[edit]
村民以农业为主，经济收入来自捕捞、养殖和经商[3]。村内有新时代文明实践站；该村被列为省级新农村连片示范工程的主体村，村道整治获得外出乡贤的捐款。乡贤冯观轩自2009年起，每年向80周岁以上老人发放慰问金[3]。
荣誉[edit]
2022年9月，南米村被认定为「2022年湛江市文明村」[1]。
