地名与沿革[edit]
原潭头村建在两条河汇合形成的水潭上游，村名「潭头」沿用至今。[1] 据博雅地名网，村民原从东莞冲头迁到东方的上头田，1780年文松月由上头田迁到此地定居。[1] 潭头先有农会（1950年），后改大队（1957年），1982年起设村委会；1984年一度叫潭头乡，撤乡建镇的1987年之后恢复村委会之称，2004年城市化改制时变为社区居委会。[1]

2026年的社区介绍称，社区面积4.65平方千米，股份合作公司有6家，工业企业480家，社区内建有潭头第一工业区、第二工业城、第三工业区和西部工业园。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
文氏古墓群位于潭头工业区内，坐东向西，保存明至民国墓葬22座（明代1座、清代17座、民国4座），最早的2号墓建于明成化年间；墓葬多呈广府太师椅形，由墓堂、拜堂和月池三部分构成。宝安区政府于2010年9月10日将其列为区级文物保护单位。[3]
