地名由来[edit]
村在盆地之中，地势平坦，四周树林茂密，村里原有十棵大树，因而称平林。[2]
历史沿革[edit]
1955年成立初级社，1956年转高级社，1964年称大队，1983年建平林乡，1988年改管理区，1998年起改设村民委员会。[1]
平林惜字塔[edit]
惜字塔在村西约半公里处的河边台地上、桥旁，是座三层六角形的楼阁式空心砖塔，高约7.2米。[1][3] 据百度百科，塔建于明永乐二年（1404年），建塔者是孔子后裔孔伯道，塔与孔氏家族所办的孔林书院配套，专供焚化废字纸；个别塔砖上印有“孔伯道公祠碑”的戳记。[3] 塔1982年被列为南雄县文物保护单位，2015年12月列入「第八批广东省文物保护单位」。[3] 孔林书院今已毁。[1]
人口与产业[edit]
村域面积19.96平方千米，耕地4236亩，山地31215亩，有户513户、约2200人；经济林以毛竹为主。[1]
