在流沙南街道设立之初，这里新建了一个居委会，名称取“立新”，意为新设立。居委会于2001年5月组建，次年改称社区，名字延续至今。[1]

辖区[edit]

社区东起流沙新光路，西至流沙流石路，北抵流沙大道，南临市环城南路。辖区设15个居民小组，有居民2816户，总人口9862人。[1]

新光路、流石路、流沙大道和环城南路等市区主干道在辖区纵横交错，区内设有邮政局、酒店宾馆、多家银行和医药商店，商贸活跃。[1]
