历史沿革[edit]

解放后设四联乡，本村因地处镇东而取名新东。村中山寨曾是上砂庄氏开基始祖的居所。[1]

1958年至1983年本村为新东大队。1984年2月，大队改设新东乡；1986年起称新东村民委员会，1990年以后划为新东管理区，1999年改回新东村委会，沿用至今。[1]

2009年本村被揭西县评为文明村。[1]
