村头村是潮安区江东镇下辖的行政村，位于镇域北部，西面临韩江，离镇政府约4公里。村子原名僊邨，后因位于村前而改称村头，村内陈、林、杨、黄、柳、赵六姓并存，陈姓为主。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，村中陈氏为宋南康郡王陈洪进的后裔。陈古谿于元末兵乱时携子迁入潮州，其孙陈东阳于明建文二年（1400年）迁至江东都僊邨定居创业。林姓先辈自元代从潮州城桃巷迁来，杨姓于清初迁入，黄姓于清中期从澄海隆都吴邦村迁入，赵姓于1944年迁入，柳姓于1952年迁入。各姓逐渐连成村落，僊邨另定名为村头村。[1]

1958年，村属亭头大队；1974年析出，以村名设村头大队；1999年改为村头村民委员会，此名沿用至今。[1]

地理环境[edit]

村子北面是亭头村，南面相连衙头村，东侧为兜洲村。耕地389亩，属旱地，土质为沙质且土层疏松，主要种植豆类、甘薯和蔬菜。[2]

人口民族[edit]

博雅地名网所载全村391户，计1446人（男831、女815）。该网站未注明统计年份。[2]

经济[edit]

家庭联产承包责任制之后，村民大批外出务工，村里以工副业为主，农业为辅。村中有电脑绣2家、服装厂5家、珠绣8家，八成以上妇女从事珠绣生产。全村拥有私人汽车的有5户，摩托车超过150户。[2]

文化[edit]

村头是海外华侨较多的村子，侨居者主要分布在新加坡和印尼。1980年，华侨陈坤裕捐款5万多元购置电机、变压器并架设电线，解决了村民照明问题；1984年，海外乡亲捐资14.2万元兴建水塔，村民用上了自来水。1993年，海外乡亲再集资188万元，建成一座三层楼校舍。据博雅地名网，1984年陈坤裕又出资逾20万元组建“僊侨潮剧团”，并培训了50多名艺人。[2]

解放前，村中只办有私塾。1951年，三村小学合并为一所，定名为「元亭僊」小学，校址设在亭头村。1959年，村中办起一所民办小学，此后村小学一度附设初中班，至今仍设有小学。[2]

2020年12月，广东省爱卫会授予村头村「2020年广东省卫生村」荣誉称号。2019年9月，村头村列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」名单。[1]
